Recently the minimum wage was raised by the gov't. It was raised by about 20 reais a month I think ... almost nothing. The incredible part is that when the minimum wage goes up everyone raises prices! So, of course, the poor guy who got that raise doesn't actually have any more buying power than he did before. The metro went up. The place where I cut my hair and the laundry mat both went up 1 Real each. It's unbelievable how prices get raised here ... and it used to be much worse. So, they raise the min. wage and all of my expenses go up! Nice, eh?
