Great review of A View From Below in the Folha de São Paulo Newspaper

Published on Nov 30, 2013

Translated from original in Portuguese:

The American musician Scott Feiner opened the doors to a new universe for the pandeiro - the percussion instrument commonly found in samba, choro, and other Brazilian genres. Based in Rio de Janeiro since 2001, the former guitarist swapped instruments, and eventually decided to introduce pandeiro rhythms to the improvisations of jazz.

"A View From Below" (distributed by Tratore), his fourth album, shows that Feiner has only evolved. On his previous albums he recorded interpretations of jazz standards and Brazilian popular music classics as well as some originals. Today, in addition to having become a versatile pandeiro player, he is also the author of all nine tracks recorded with his group, Pandeiro Jazz, which also highlights Rafael Vernet's electric piano and Guilherme Monteiro's guitar. The creative freedom this trio displays while shifting between jazz and Brazilian music is amazing.
